World Leader in Robotic Finishing Systems Launches R&D Center in Singapore

US firm, Acme Manufacturing Company, established new research and development centre focusing on the development of new robotic metal finishing solutions in Singapore

27 September 2019 – Acme Manufacturing Company, a world leader in robotic finishing systems has officially launched its Singapore office today. Acme Singapore includes a standalone research and development centre focused on creating new solutions and customised robotics systems for the company’s extensive customers in Southeast Asia.

“The establishment of Acme Singapore reflects our commitment to bring our state-of-the-art innovations closer to customers in Southeast Asia,” said Mr Fritz Carlson, President and CEO of Acme Manufacturing Company, who was present at the grand opening of the company’s Singapore facility. “I believe we are currently the only Certified Robotic Integrator in the region specialising in Metal Finishing.”

Acme’s integrated automated solutions employ robot arms and a suite of digital technologies to perform finishing tasks such as grinding, polishing, deburring, and buffing on manufactured metal parts. The systems are applied for high-precision finishing of jet engine and aerospace structural components such as turbine blades, vanes, fuselage skins and wing skins. Apart from cost reduction and increased operating efficiency, the application of robots improves consistency and uniformity ensuring that parts satisfy stringent aerospace requirements.

Located in Seletar Aerospace Park, Acme Singapore is nestled amongst some of the largest aerospace manufacturers in the world.

“We are pleased to benefit from Singapore’s innovation ecosystem and the country’s push to be a leader in smart manufacturing and advanced engineering,” added Mr Carlson. The R&D centre will also be exploring other new finishing techniques using Additive Manufacturing.

Congratulating Acme Singapore on its grand opening, Mr Sia Kheng Yok, Chief Executive of the Association of Aerospace Industries (Singapore), remarked, “Singapore’s aerospace industry is actively embracing digitalisation, automation and new technologies for improved productivity. We are pleased to welcome Acme Singapore into the growing ecosystem of solution providers that is enabling our industry’s transformation.”
